Summer 2019: Sunday, June 23 through Friday, June 28
Developed with the serious music student in mind, this residency is an in-depth week-long summer program for high school and middle school music students designed by UNC Asheville’s contemporary music faculty.
At UNC Asheville, our music performance and music technology programs push the boundaries of music education. University students receive directed instruction in Studio Music and Jazz while cross-training in Eco and Ethnomusicology plus Roots and Popular Music. They explore experimental multi-media, electronic music, and the most contemporary concert and improvisational music to date, all housed inside a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum producing well-rounded graduates.
Taking its cue from the University's four year program, the Summer Music Camp accelerates knowledge and understanding of all forms of improvisational music. Students participate in a variety of challenging and rewarding ensembles and classes while interacting continually, from sunup to sundown with the faculty and guest artists.

A fund providing a limited number of need-based merit scholarships for the 2019 summer camp has been provided by the UNC Asheville Office of Admission and Financial Aid. Camp scholarship recipients must be currently eligible for the free or reduced school lunch program. These half-tuition and full tuition camp scholarships are awarded based on a short essay in the application form and a video audition submitted online. UNC Asheville discounts the student tuition by 10% of your total balance if a group of five (5) or more students attends from the same school, band director, or organization. When registering, make sure the same information is included in the Current School and Current Instructor information.
